| 背面描述 | A highly detailed depiction of a koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) clinging to and traversing a eucalyptus branch occupies the majority of the reverse field, rendered with exceptional naturalistic texture in the animal's fur. The koala is shown in a forward-facing position, its forepaws gripping a branch amid eucalyptus leaves. The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark appears to the left in the mid-field, and the engraver's initials 'WR' (Wade Robinson) are inscribed at the lower left. The legend 1/25 oz 9999 GOLD is inscribed along the lower rim. |

The Australian Koala gold series, launched by the Perth Mint in 2009, was designed explicitly to compete with established bullion programs from the U.S., Canada, and South Africa in the high-purity fractional market. The .9999 fineness was a deliberate point of differentiation — the American Gold Eagle, by contrast, uses a .9167 alloy for durability reasons. Perth Mint's bet was that collector-investors would pay a premium for purer metal in smaller denominations, and the fractional proof issues consistently sold out in their limited mintages.
