Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, pearl drop earrings, and a pearl necklace, as modelled by Raphael David Maklouf for the third definitive portrait. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left rim and NEW ZEALAND along the upper right rim, with the date 1998 positioned centrally at the base of the design. The engraver's initials RDM appear incuse at the truncation of the bust. The mirror-like proof fields provide strong contrast against the finely detailed sculptural relief of the portrait.
