Reverse description A naturalistically rendered Tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae), a native New Zealand honeyeater, is depicted perched on a branch amid clusters of flax (harakeke) blossoms in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. The bird is shown in a three-quarter facing left pose with characteristic throat plumage detail visible at the breast. The species name TUI appears to the right of the bird in the mid-field, while the denomination legend FIVE DOLLARS arcs along the lower periphery. The composition, engraved by Michael McHalick, showcases intricate botanical and ornithological detail in the proof finish.
