Reverse description The reverse features a three-quarter facing portrait of the British navigator and explorer Matthew Flinders set to the left, rendered in high relief against a mirror proof field, with his name M. FLINDERS inscribed beneath in the lower left. Behind the portrait, a detailed outline map of the Australian continent fills the upper and right portion of the field, alluding to Flinders' historic circumnavigation and charting of Australia. The denomination 5 DOLLARS appears to the upper right, superimposed over the map. The overall composition, designed by Vladimir Glikman, balances portraiture and cartographic imagery in a classically inspired style.
