| Additional information |
Issued to mark the golden wedding anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1997, this is one of several Commonwealth nations that produced commemorative currency for the occasion — a coordinated royal milestone rather than a New Zealand-specific decision. The "3rd Portrait" designation places this coin within the Raphael Maklouf effigy series, used across Commonwealth issues from 1985 until it was phased out in favor of the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait beginning in the late 1990s. New Zealand made the switch in 1999, making this among the final NZ issues to carry the Maklouf obverse.
