The "double date" designation on this issue marks the transition from 1999 into 2000 — the Royal Canadian Mint produced a range of privy-marked Maple Leaf issues specifically targeting the collector market ahead of the millennium. The firework privy, applied to the reverse field, was one of several thematic marks used that year to differentiate bullion-grade silver Maples from standard annual issues without altering the core coin's specifications.
The SML designation indicates sale through selected international distribution channels. These privy variants were never released into general circulation.
