| 背面描述 | Central portrait bust of Dutch explorer Abel Tasman facing slightly left, wearing a period lace collar characteristic of 17th-century attire, rendered against a stylised outline map of Australia and New Zealand in the field. The denomination 5 DOLLARS appears in raised lettering to the upper right, and the explorer's name ABEL TASMAN is inscribed in the lower left of the field. The composition conveys a cartographic and historical theme commemorating Tasman's voyages of discovery to the Australasian region. |

Abel Tasman reached the coast of what Europeans would call Van Diemen's Land in November 1642, becoming the first European to sight the island now known as Tasmania — yet he never set foot on it and left without realizing it was an island at all. The 1993 RAM Masterpieces in Silver series was a proof-quality program aimed squarely at the collector market, with strictly limited mintages and no circulation intent.
Tasman sailed under commission from the Dutch East India Company, searching for a southern continent rich enough to justify trade routes.
