Beschrijving keerzijde Central design features a highly detailed, naturalistically rendered sugar maple leaf (Acer saccharum) with prominent veining, occupying the majority of the reverse field. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery. The purity mark 9995 appears twice flanking the maple leaf at mid-field, and the inscription FINE PLATINUM 1/10 OZ PLATINE PUR curves along the lower periphery, affirming the coin's metal content and weight in both English and French.

Aanvullende informatie

Canada's platinum bullion program launched in 1988 as a direct response to South Africa's Krugerrand embargo and the resulting gap in the global bullion market. The Maple Leaf series was the first platinum bullion coin offered to the world market by any sovereign mint, and the 1/10 oz. denomination was specifically sized to attract smaller investors priced out of the full-ounce format. The .9995 fineness set a standard that competing programs would later match but initially could not beat.

The series ran only from 1988 to 1989 in this portrait configuration before Elizabeth II's effigy was updated.
