Reverse description The reverse presents a richly detailed historical tableau commemorating the Second Crusade of 1147. To the left, a bold high-relief portrait of Louis VII of France is depicted crowned and wearing ornate fleur-de-lis robes, holding a sceptre. To the right, a complex multi-figure scene unfolds showing a preacher addressing a gathered crowd of Crusaders beneath a large canopied platform, with mounted knights and Gothic spires visible in the background. The legend SECOND CRUSADE 1147 arcs boldly along the upper rim, while the inscription LOUIS VII OF FRANCE appears within a cartouche at the lower centre, flanked by a Jerusalem cross. The date 20 10 is split on either side of the cross at the base of the design, and the antiqued finish enhances the depth and drama of the high-relief composition.
