Obverse description The obverse presents a right-facing draped bust effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Arnold Machin, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and drapery. A continuous beaded border encircles the field. The legend reads 'COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMA ISLANDS' arcing around the upper periphery, with 'ELIZABETH II' inscribed along the lower arc, all in Latin capitals.

Reverse description The reverse displays the full Coat of Arms of the Commonwealth of the Bahama Islands at centre, featuring a quartered shield bearing a rising sun over sea in the upper half and a British galleon under sail in the lower half. The shield is supported on the dexter by a marlin and on the sinister by a flamingo, both standing on a grassy and watery base. Above the shield rises a crest consisting of a conch shell surmounted by a palm tree with tropical foliage. Below, a scroll bears the national motto 'FORWARD UPWARD ONWARD TOGETHER' in two lines. The denomination 'FIVE DOLLARS' arcs along the upper border and the date appears to the right, all within a beaded border.
