Proceeding clockwise from the top, the animals include the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig, all rendered with exceptional sculptural detail against a deeply recessed antiqued background decorated with interlocking cloud and scrollwork patterns. At the centre of the composition sits a Bagua (Eight Trigrams) symbol framed by an ornate floral border, with a prominent Yin-Yang (Taijitu) symbol in its interior. The overall design is executed in an antiqued finish that accentuates the elaborate relief work, and the mintmark NM appears discreetly in the upper right field. |
