Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse field is entirely occupied by a bold, abstract op-art design composed of densely packed concentric angular lines forming a large stylised letter 'X' or cross-shaped motif, evoking the energetic brushstroke patterns characteristic of Vincent van Gogh's post-impressionist painting technique. The geometric line work creates a strong visual illusion of depth and movement across the entire coin face. A border of multiple concentric circular grooves frames the central design, echoing the engine-turned treatment of the obverse. The word 'I C O N' appears as a spaced legend referencing the series title. No additional inscriptions appear on the reverse.

Aanvullende informatie

Tokelau has become a reliable vehicle for New Zealand-administered commemorative silver issues aimed squarely at the collector market, with no meaningful domestic circulation. Van Gogh died in July 1890 — broke, largely unrecognized, having sold perhaps one painting in his lifetime. Within two decades of his death, his work was fetching prices that would have been incomprehensible to him.

The .9999 fineness places this above the more common .999 standard, a distinction some bullion buyers track closely.
