The Tenham meteorite fell over Queensland, Australia in 1879, scattering thousands of fragments across a strewn field near the Tenham cattle station. It is classified as an L6 chondrite and remains one of the most scientifically studied Australian falls, notable for containing shock-produced high-pressure mineral phases including ringwoodite — a mineral otherwise found naturally only in the deep mantle.
Fragments of actual Tenham material are inlaid into the coin's surface, sourced from authenticated specimens.
