Part of the ongoing "Magnificent Life" wildlife series issued through the New Zealand Mint on behalf of Cook Islands, this piece targets the collector bullion market rather than any circulation purpose — Cook Islands has used licensed third-party mint programs since the 1970s to generate numismatic revenue far exceeding the face value of the coins themselves. The Charles III obverse reflects the first update to Commonwealth coinage effigies following the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022, with many mints still working through transitional die inventories well into 2023.
