Niue has functioned as a licensing vehicle for commemorative bullion since the 1990s, with the New Zealand government administering its currency arrangements under the Niue Act 1966. The Samson issue is part of a Biblical figures series. Charles III's accession in September 2022 made him the first new effigy to appear on Niue's commemorative output in over seventy years of the modern program.
