Tokelau has no mint of its own and issues coins primarily through the New Zealand Mint under licensing arrangements, with the territory's coinage serving the collector market almost exclusively — the atoll's population of roughly 1,500 uses the New Zealand dollar for everyday transactions. This piece is among the first Tokelau issues to feature Charles III following his accession in September 2022, replacing the long-running Elizabeth II obverse type used across the territory's collector series since the 1970s.
