Niue has functioned as a collector-coin platform for the New Zealand Mint since the 1990s, issuing bullion and numismatic pieces under its name while having essentially no independent monetary infrastructure of its own. The arrangement is straightforward: Niue licenses its legal tender status to the mint, which handles everything else.
Charles III coinage began appearing from various Commonwealth-affiliated issuers almost immediately following the Queen's death in September 2022, with the New Zealand Mint among the fastest to market.
