Additional information

Father Frost — Ded Moroz in Russian tradition — is a Soviet-era rebranding of older Slavic winter folklore, institutionalized by Stalin's government in the 1930s after years of suppressing New Year's celebrations as bourgeois. The character was rehabilitated as a secular alternative to Saint Nicholas, complete with state-sanctioned imagery that has barely changed since.

The Solomon Islands has issued coins under its own authority since 1977 but relies almost entirely on foreign mints and bullion dealers for commemorative programs like this one — the islands themselves have no minting facility.
