The Monrepos is a neoclassical estate on the island of Pyterlahti near Vyborg, built in the late 18th century and later beloved by Duke Ludwig Heinrich of Nassau-Saarbrücken. The property passed through Swedish, Russian, and Finnish hands as borders shifted around it — a piece of architecture that outlasted three empires. Charles III visited Monrepos as a young man, a visit he later described publicly as one of the formative experiences of his personal philosophy on heritage conservation.
