Beschrijving voorzijde At the lower center of the field, a raised circular medallion bears the right-facing effigy of King Charles III, rendered in fine relief after the portrait by Dominique Frichet. Surrounding the medallion, the field depicts an aerial architectural plan view of the Templo Mayor — the great ceremonial temple of Tenochtitlan — engraved with extraordinary precision to suggest the stepped pyramidal structure's layout from above. The circular border is richly decorated with interlocking Aztec relief motifs and glyphic ornamentation. The circular legend around the effigy medallion reads: 5 DOLLARS · CHARLES III · 2025 DT · COOK ISLANDS ·

Aanvullende informatie

The Aztec Empire fell with extraordinary speed — Tenochtitlan, a city larger than any in contemporary Europe, capitulated to Cortés in 1521 after a siege of roughly 80 days, its causeways blocked and its water supply cut. What the Spanish found in the treasury almost certainly never made it back to Seville intact; most was melted before it left the Americas.

Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver under Charles III's authority since his accession in September 2022, continuing a long arrangement whereby the territory's legal tender coinage is produced for the collector market rather than circulation.
