Bamboo foliage extends across the lower left and upper portions of the field, framing the central design. To the upper left, the Chinese character 蛇 is inscribed in an outlined style alongside the English legend YEAR OF THE SNAKE in three lines, with the fineness notation 1 oz .999 Ag beneath. The engraver's initials BS appear to the lower right of the bamboo grouping.
