Additional information

Cornwallis coins from Liberia's early 2000s–2010s commemorative run were produced in bulk by private mints — primarily Pobjoy and several European contract houses — targeting the collector novelty market rather than any meaningful circulating need. Liberia issued hundreds of distinct subjects across this period, from Napoleonic generals to American presidents, with no particular editorial logic beyond marketability. Cornwallis is an odd choice even within that framework: best remembered in the American consciousness for his surrender at Yorktown in 1781, he went on to distinguished service in India and Ireland, but neither history connects him to Liberia in any way.
