Liberia has issued commemorative legal tender under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, producing coins that circulate as collectibles rather than in any Liberian marketplace. This piece joins a long line of such issues — the California Gold Rush being a recurring subject across the global commemorative market, attached to whatever issuing authority a mint's licensing deal happens to cover that year.
