Cronopio dentiacutus is a genuine Mesozoic mammal-relative, known from Late Cretaceous deposits in Argentina and described formally in 2011 — its elongated canines and narrow snout prompted paleontologists to nickname the genus after the whimsical Cronopios in Julio Cortázar's fiction. Equatorial Guinea has made a habit of issuing brass coins attributed to Bioko island bearing subjects that have no geographic or historical connection to the country whatsoever.
The issuing authority here is effectively a licensing arrangement, not a sovereign monetary decision with any local relevance.
