The Bernina Express runs between Chur, Switzerland and Tirano, Italy, crossing the Rhaetian Railway's Albula and Bernina lines — a route designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. Liberia's habit of issuing silver commemoratives themed around foreign infrastructure with no direct national connection was a deliberate revenue strategy: these coins were sold exclusively to collectors in Europe and never circulated in Liberia at all.
