| Additional information |
The Benjamin Sheares Bridge, completed in 1981, was Singapore's largest infrastructure project at the time of its opening — a twin-deck expressway spanning the Marina Bay waterway and named after the country's second president, who had died in office the previous year. This commemorative issue followed within a year of the bridge's completion, part of the Monetary Authority's ongoing practice of marking major civil engineering achievements as the island-state built out its modern infrastructure at a pace few nations matched.
The .925 silver composition ties this to Singapore's earlier commemorative standard before the MAS shifted toward lower-silver or base-metal issues in subsequent series.
