| 表面の説明 | The central device depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, featuring a shield bearing a sailing ship approaching a shore with a palm tree and rising sun, surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto. The date is split to either side of the shield, with '20' to the left and '05' to the right. The outer legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper rim, while a secondary legend 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' curves across the upper portion of the shield. A further inscription 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' appears on a ribbon below the shield, with 'FIVE DOLLARS' indicated in the lettering. |

Liberia's commemorative licensing operation in the 2000s was prolific to the point of absurdity — the country issued coins honoring virtually every major world figure, event, and anniversary regardless of any national connection. This piece was struck to coincide with the April 2005 papal conclave that elected Joseph Ratzinger, one of dozens of near-identical commemoratives Liberia produced for the same occasion.
Gold-plated copper-nickel at this diameter was the house format for the entire series. Mintages were never officially disclosed.
