Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a highly detailed, antique-finished depiction of a large sea shell — a turbinella-type conch — occupying the central field, its exterior rendered with intricate sculptural texturing. The inner lip of the shell displays vivid iridescent colour treatment in pink and violet hues, evoking a mother-of-pearl effect. A genuine inset pearl of deep rose colour is affixed to the lower portion of the shell's interior, serving as a three-dimensional decorative element. The legend MARINE LIFE PROTECTION arcs along the upper border above a dotted inner border, while the inscription BEAUTY OF THE SEA is incused in the lower field, and the date 2014 appears at the base.

Aanvullende informatie

Palau has issued an extraordinary volume of collector-focused silver pieces since gaining independence in 1994, leveraging its status as a sovereign nation to license colorized and shaped coin programs through the Austrian Mint and other European producers. The "Beauty of the Sea" series falls squarely within this commercial framework — coins designed explicitly for the numismatic market, never intended to circulate in a country whose de facto currency is the US dollar.

KM#473 is one of dozens of Palauan issues attributed to that year alone, most produced under contract rather than by any domestic minting facility.
