Barclays Bank (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas) was itself a 1925 amalgamation — Colonial Bank, the Anglo-Egyptian Bank, and the National Bank of South Africa folded into a single entity under the Barclays umbrella, giving the parent bank a sprawling colonial network almost overnight.
