Obverse description Supported royal arms vignette at centre, flanked by vertical guilloche panels bearing the denomination numeral '5' in large format on each side. The upper portion carries the bank's full title in bold letterpress, with the words 'THE COLONIAL BANK' in larger display type. Circular inscriptions noting incorporation by Royal Charter 1836 and reincorporation by Act of Parliament 1925 appear to the lower left and right of the arms respectively, with 'DEMERARA BRITISH GUIANA' at lower left and two manuscript signatures with printed titles at bottom.
