Opmerkingen

The Bank of Washington operated out of Washington, Beaufort County, a modest port town on the Pamlico River with enough commercial activity to justify a state-chartered bank but not enough to make it particularly prominent among North Carolina's antebellum institutions. The date range reflects the bank's active issuing period through the Civil War years, though notes remaining in circulation after 1861 would have faced the practical problem of a federal blockade cutting Washington off from normal commerce — the town changed hands multiple times between Union and Confederate forces.

ABNCo engraving quality on this series is consistent with their mid-century Southern bank contracts. The Haxby G12a designation places this among the fully authorized, signed issues rather than the remainders that surfaced after the bank closed.
