Obverse description Printed in vivid vermillion by the American Bank Note Company, the obverse carries a large allegorical vignette of three female figures at upper left, a central engraved vignette of a steam locomotive pulling a train, and a rounded vignette of a seated female figure at right. Ornate letterpress borders frame the engraved text, with the bank title arched across the upper register and the promise-to-pay obligation at centre. The overall layout is characteristic of antebellum American obsolete banknote production, with fine intaglio engraving contrasting against the vivid underprint.

Reverse description The reverse is blank, bearing only faint ghost impressions of the obverse vignettes visible through the paper stock, consistent with the single-sided printing practices common among mid-nineteenth-century American obsolete banknotes.
