Goodspeed's Landing was a minor Connecticut River whaling and ferry stop — not the kind of place that typically anchored a chartered bank. The Bank of New England at Goodspeed's Landing was one of several small Connecticut institutions whose notes circulated well beyond their home counties, relying heavily on the reputation of their printer rather than the standing of the issuing town. ABNCo's involvement here was essentially a quality signal to note-holders in an era when wildcat banking made provenance everything.
The Haxby G22c designation places this among the later plate states of the series, likely after ABNCo consolidated several New England bank contracts in the late 1850s.
