The Arundina graminifolia, commonly called the bamboo orchid, is one of the few orchid species native to Singapore rather than hybridized for the horticultural trade — a meaningful distinction in a country whose national flower is a cultivated hybrid. This coin belongs to Singapore's long-running orchid bullion series, which the Monetary Authority launched partly to differentiate its silver issues from the generic wildlife rounds flooding the market in the early 2000s.
The .999 fineness aligns with the series' shift away from the .925 standard used in earlier commemorative issues.
