Additional information

Congress authorized this coin through the American 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Act of 2012, honoring Omar Bradley and Dwight Eisenhower — the only two officers to hold the five-star General of the Army rank who were also graduates of West Point. The legislation tied the coin's release to the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kansas, with surcharges split between both institutions.

Bradley was the last surviving five-star officer in U.S. history, dying in 1981.
