The P#43 series was issued as Barbados transitioned away from the earlier signature combinations that had defined the notes of the 1980s. C. M. Springer served as Governor of the Central Bank from 1990, and the 1993 date marks one of the later issues under that sole signature line before subsequent series updates.

De La Rue's involvement with Barbadian currency has been continuous since the Central Bank's founding in 1972, giving the island's notes a consistently high production standard. The security thread on this issue is a plain embedded type — the windowed thread technology De La Rue would later apply more widely was not yet standard on Caribbean regional issues at this date.
