Obverse description	Black intaglio print on white paper with a central bank arms vignette set within a triangular guilloche underprint flanked by two portrait medallions — a left-facing bust to the left and a right-facing bust to the right. The bank title 'Bank of Montreal' appears in ornate letterpress at the top centre, with the denomination 'Five Dollars' in a dark panel below the central vignette. Red serial numbers are printed in the upper centre, and the date 'Montreal, 2nd January 1935' appears below the denomination panel. Two facsimile signatures appear at the foot, with titles 'General Manager' and 'President' respectively, and the printer's imprint 'Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited' runs along the bottom margin.

Reverse description	Printed in green intaglio, the reverse is dominated by a central vignette of the Bank of Montreal's neoclassical head office building in Montreal, rendered in fine detail with a columned portico and horse-drawn carriages in the foreground. Two large numeral '5' counters in elaborate guilloche rosettes flank the central vignette on either side. The bank name 'Bank of Montreal' arcs across the top in serif lettering, and the denomination 'Five Dollars' appears in a straight legend at the foot of the central frame. The printer's imprint 'Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited' is present in small type at the bottom margin.
