Obverse description Bilingual note with the bank title BANQUE CANADIENNE NATIONALE in large lettering across the top. A central intaglio vignette presents an allegorical group of figures — a seated female figure with attendants — rendered in a classical sculptural style. Portrait vignettes of two male figures appear in oval frames at left and right, flanked by large guilloche numeral 5 underprints in green. The date reads Montreal, Jan. 2nd 1935 in English at upper left and Montréal, le 2 Jan. 1935 in French at upper right, with red serial numbers printed in letterpress.

Reverse description Printed entirely in green, the reverse is dominated by a large central oval cartouche enclosing an arrangement of the provincial coats of arms of Canada, surrounded by intricate guilloche lacework. Large numeral 5 counters appear at left and right within elaborate scroll borders, and the denomination is repeated in both languages at top and bottom.
