The upper border carries the inscription DOMINION OF CANADA above THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA, with WILL PAY TO BEARER ON DEMAND below; the denomination FIVE DOLLARS appears in a cartouche at the base, with the numeral 5 repeated in the lower corners. Red serial numbers and prefix letter D are printed in letterpress, and two facsimile signatures appear below with the titles GENERAL MANAGER and PRESIDENT alongside the date JAN. 2ND 1927. |

THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA is lettered across the top, with FIVE repeated three times along the lower border and the printer's imprint CANADIAN BANK NOTE COMPANY, LIMITED in small text at the foot. |
