Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a bold red and teal guilloche title panel bearing 'HONGKONG & SHANGHAI BANKING CORPORATION' in arched letterpress, with Chinese characters running along the top border. Flanking the central field are two intaglio vignettes: at left, a covered waterfront arcade with a water carrier and figures beside a sedan chair; at right, a sailing junk on a river. The bank's coat of arms appears as a central underprint between the serial numbers, with the promise text, denomination, date, and two manuscript signatures of the Chief Accountant and Chief Manager printed below.

Reverse description The reverse is centred on a finely engraved intaglio vignette of a grand colonial building, understood to be the Bank's principal Hong Kong office, set within an ornate guilloche border. The denomination and issuer name are printed across the upper and lower panels respectively, with the printer's imprint positioned along the lower margin.
