The Farmers Bank of Canada was chartered in 1904 but never actually opened for business in the conventional sense — it collapsed before achieving full operational status, and its notes were issued speculatively rather than backed by functioning branch deposits. The 1907 series, of which this note is part, was printed by ABNCo in anticipation of a bank launch that never materialized cleanly, making these notes survivors of one of the more embarrassing chartered bank failures in Canadian financial history.
Because genuine circulation was negligible, most examples that surface today are remainders rather than truly issued notes. The distinction matters for provenance.
