To the lower left, an intaglio vignette presents a street scene of colonial Hong Kong with a traditional gate, while to the lower right a sailing junk is rendered in fine line engraving. The promise-to-pay text, denomination in words, date, and two manuscript signatures appear in the lower portion of the note. |

The vignette is set within an elaborate orange guilloche border with foliate scrollwork filling the four corners, and the numeral 5 appears in the upper corners. The bank's full English name is inscribed in a panel at the bottom centre. |
