| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse is printed in black and orange on white paper, with an oval intaglio portrait vignette of a male figure in a suit occupying the left third of the note. To the right of the portrait, the bank title 'The Bank of Ottawa' is rendered in ornate script lettering, above the promise clause 'Will Pay to Bearer on Demand'. A central vignette presents a detailed engraving of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, flanked on either side by guilloche panels bearing the denomination '5' and the words 'Five Dollars'. The date 'June 1st, 1900' and place of issue 'Ottawa' appear at lower centre, with two manuscript signatures and the printer's imprint along the bottom margin. |
