The Bank of New Brunswick was one of the smaller Maritime chartered banks, operating out of Fredericton with a history stretching back to 1820. By 1892 it was already in its final decade — the bank was absorbed by the Bank of Montreal in 1913, and late-series notes like this one had a correspondingly limited circulation life.
The American Bank Note Company's New York presses handled security printing for dozens of Canadian chartered banks during this period, a practical arrangement given ABNC's engraving capabilities relative to anything available domestically at the time.
