Obverse description At left, an engraved portrait vignette of Christopher G. Memminger, Secretary of the Treasury of the Confederacy. The central vignette presents a sailor resting against a cotton bale, emblematic of the Confederate agricultural and maritime economy. At right, an allegorical group comprises a standing figure of Justice alongside a seated Ceres, goddess of agriculture, the whole composition executed in intaglio with letterpress denomination and issuer inscriptions.
