Namibia's independence in 1990 came after a prolonged armed struggle against South African administration and a UN-supervised transition that was, at the time, one of the most complex decolonization processes ever undertaken. This coin marks the tenth anniversary of that independence. Gold issues from the Bank of Namibia in this period were produced in extremely limited quantities, primarily for collector sets rather than any circulation purpose, which is why survivors appear almost exclusively in original packaging.
