Reverse description The reverse presents a finely rendered design of two African lion heads in close profile — a lioness to the left and a maned male lion to the right — rising from stylized savanna grass in the central field. Above the lions, a depiction of the Brandberg mountain or a landscape silhouette appears near the upper field. The commemorative legend 10 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE curves along the upper periphery, while the founding year +1990+ appears at the lower left and the issue year +2000+ at the lower right. The denomination $5 is inscribed at the base, all within an inner beaded border.

Additional information

Namibia's independence in 1990 came after a prolonged armed struggle against South African administration and a UN-supervised transition that was, at the time, one of the most complex decolonization processes ever undertaken. This coin marks the tenth anniversary of that independence. Gold issues from the Bank of Namibia in this period were produced in extremely limited quantities, primarily for collector sets rather than any circulation purpose, which is why survivors appear almost exclusively in original packaging.
