| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a central pastoral vignette of cattle and herdsmen in a rural landscape, executed in fine intaglio engraving. The bank title INTERNATIONAL BANK OF CANADA arches across the top, with TORONTO and the date September 15, 1858 below; large green guilloche numerals and the word FIVE appear at left and right as underprint elements. The lower left carries dual denomination panels reading CAPITAL $1,000,000 and ONE POUND FIVE SHILLINGS, with a decorative V counter at bottom left and a manuscript signature for the cashier at lower centre. |
