Additional information

Andorra has no central bank and no independent monetary history to speak of — it circulated French francs and Spanish pesetas simultaneously for decades, and after 2002 simply adopted the euro without ever being an EU member. These small-denomination gold issues were struck not for circulation but as legal tender souvenirs, produced in cooperation with the Casa de la Moneda in Madrid. The United Nations theme reflects Andorra's admission to the UN in 1993, one of the last European states admitted, notably after the Vatican.
