| Reverse description | The reverse bears a striking high-relief depiction of an allegorical face of Autumn, rendered in the manner of Giuseppe Arcimboldo's celebrated composite portraiture. A bearded male visage is formed entirely from the abundant fruits and produce of the harvest season, including clusters of grapes, vine leaves, ears of wheat, apples, pears, and other autumnal vegetation, all executed with exceptional sculptural detail across the entire coin field. The engraver's mark ROM appears at the lower centre of the design. The field is plain and unlettered, allowing the intricate high-relief imagery to dominate the composition. |
